Calming Plant Remedies to Pair with Matcha
We believe in the healing powers of plants so we decided to put together a quick list of 4 additional herbs and supplements you can pair with your matcha for a relaxed inner glow.
Need a refresher on matcha?
Matcha is a finely ground powder made from specially grown green tea leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. Like steeped green tea, matcha offers numerous health benefits, and because you’re consuming the entire leaf it’s much more potent and nutritious.
Let’s talk a little about L-theanine and EGCG found in matcha.
L-theanine is an amino-acid found in matcha that can help reduce stress and promote relaxation. It acts on certain chemicals known as neurotransmitters within the brain to help slow excitatory signals. This unique amino acid is also said to help increase brain chemicals that promote a sense of calm. The process of shading the green tea leaves before harvest is what helps enhance higher levels of L-theanine found in matcha.
Matcha is also high in a catechin called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG as an antioxidant helps to fight oxidative stress and damage to DNA cells within the body. Prolonged damage to our cells can lead to chronic illness and other potential issues, like early aging. EGCG may also help to reduce inflammation and prevent heart disease.

Lavender
Lavender, or Lavandula, is another gentle herb that is commonly used for its relaxing properties in herbal medicine. It’s also one of the more frequent essential oils used in aromatherapy for stress and anxiety. It is said to help calm and soothe through our brain’s limbic system - the part of the brain that controls emotions. Lavender can also be ingested, and is commonly enjoyed in teas, or tonics and tinctures.
Full-Spectrum CBD
Full-spectrum CBD (cannabidiol oil) is an active compound in the Cannabis sativa plant that has gained a lot of attention for its positive effects on a wide variety of ailments. This unique cannabinoid can help with stress, anxiety and sleep (and more) by binding to cannabinoid receptors naturally present in our brain and body. This system is otherwise referred to as the endocannabinoid system, and helps to keep things in balance.
Full-spectrum CBD oil is different from CBD isolate because it contains other cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids that naturally occur in the plant. On the other hand, CBD isolate is pure CBD that has been extracted from the cannabis plant. However, when used together the compounds found in cannabis have a synergistic effect and are said to work better than when used alone.
Although full-spectrum CBD oil can legally contain up to 0.3% THC (the cannabinoid that has psychoactive properties), it doesn’t produce any psychoactive effects.
