How to Make Dalgona Matcha
If you haven’t heard of the dalgona coffee trend yet, it’s basically taken over the Internet for the early part of 2020. Dalgona coffee is usually made by whipping together instant coffee, sugar and hot water. Forget coffee though, we've put together an easy-to-follow and exceptionally delicious dalgona matcha recipe for you to try!
Did you know? The term dalgona coffee originated in South Korea and is named after the popular Korean honeycomb toffee candy.
For this recipe we used aquafaba, which is the liquid from a can of chickpeas, to form a fluffy foam-like texture. The only other ingredients you will need to recreate this recipe are matcha powder, sugar, water and of course your choice of milk. Note, you’ll need a stand or hand mixer for this recipe to whip the aquafaba.
Ingredients:
Makes 2 beverages, halve recipe for single portion.
- 6 tbsp. Aquafaba (liquid from can of chickpeas)
- 1-2 tsp. Soar Organics Matcha
- 1 tbsp. Sugar (we used organic golden sugar)
- 1 tbsp. Boiling Water
- 2 cups Plant Milk
- Handful of Ice
Steps:
You will need a stand or hand mixer for this recipe.
- Begin by whipping your aquafaba liquid for at least 5 minutes on low to medium speed, or until stiff peaks form, with a stand or hand mixture. Mix until you achieve a fluffy foam consistency. Set aside.
- In a small bowl whisk together matcha powder and sugar.
- Bring water to a boil and add 1 tbsp. boiling water to your matcha and sugar mixture. Whisk together until all sugar crystals have dissolved completely.
- Slowly add your matcha mixture to your aquafaba foam. Mix on low speed until completely dissolved.
- Fill your cup with a handful of ice and your choice of plant milk.
- Slowly pour in your matcha foam to assemble your dalgona matcha.
- Enjoy!
